bro this au idea looks so good in my head aughhhh

i'm thinking after the events of "speed demon" in season one, the girls make a pact of sorts where one girl has to stay behind to protect Townsville so Him doesn't take over, but the other girls get to leave and live their own lives. Speed Demon really creeped me out as a kid, but it was also the most memorable episode imo. There was definitely a psychological effect it had on the trio, and there's also a lack of security at the end??? like idk, by the end, they say they're never going to leave Townsville because of what they saw, but the future is still out there, scary and as unresolved as ever. usually they beat up the bad guys yada yada, but they just hightail it in that episode and never talk about it again lol

I was thinking that Blossom would be the responsible one in this scenario and stay behind, but Bubbles staying behind instead would also make for an interesting plot. In Blossom's case, she stays behind and gradually grows resentful (eldest daughter effect), which makes it easier for her to get psychologically manipulated. Her strongest attributes would be exploited, (her love for organization, control, and her natural intelligence), which would kind of make her into an antihero. I think this fits well with the canon of PPG, as Blossom is clearly headstrong and pretentious at times, but she's also afraid of what people will think of her to a certain degree (like in the episode where she got ice breath and didn't want her sisters mad at her so she refused to use them, when she stole the golf clubs for the professor, etc.)

Her self-perception is somewhat flawed, which would make for interesting story, maybe she tries to cover up the more aggressive, control-freak side of her that comes out.

as for bubbles

Bubbles wouldn't be anyone's first choice, which is why her staying behind is a good counter plot-wise and would also be intriguing. Whereas Blossom's choice is easily discernable, Bubbles' is more confusing. She's the sweetest sister and has high levels of empathy for sure, but she's also shown that she wants to be taken seriously. I'm thinking, with Blossom and Buttercup gone to pursue bigger opportunities, Bubbles may feel like she will no longer be compared to them. And also, Townsville is the "safe" option in comparison to the real world, which her sisters will soon discover. Her reasons for staying are not entirely selfish, as she genuinely cares about the Professor, and everyone else in the city, but the fact that her motives ARE partially rooted in the envy and jealousy of her sisters worries her, and ONLY her.

Because no-one's going to look at Bubbles and think that she's staying in Townsville for personal gain. Well, except one "person", that being Him.

Another reason why I wanted to use Bubbles instead of Blossom is because of her past experiences with Him (she's the sister he first appears to because he realizes he can manipulate her empathy), and also because it's another challenge to the "sweet Bubbles" trope that the show has challenged itself. I honestly think Him would either 1., try to win Bubbles over, or 2. get her MAD and get to her that way, or 3. do both by winning her over and backstabbing her.

i just think the bubbles route has a lot i can do with it, like her trying to fit into a mold she's clearly growing out of because she IS grown up, and isn't a girl anymore. what do you do when you realize you'll never truly be a girl again?

Ok I actually have a headcanon for this I just didn't find a way to include it in the book.

So he finds out he's going to lose his scholarship in the same conversation in which his very baffled academic counselor informs him that his tuition for the semester has, nonetheless, already been paid by an anonymous donor.

And he goes home to have an argument with Alex about it because he just assumes it was Alex. But Alex is like, no?? I didn't even think about that. Why didn't I think about it? Who did?

But it remains a mystery and Eli starts saving his Youtube Money and is like, if that doesn't cover it maybe I'll let Alex help, we'll see. Except next semester rolls around and his tuition is paid for again. And again it wasn't Alex.

Anyway, it's several years later that Jeff accidentally slips up on one of the rare occasions that he gets drunk and admits that he and his wife were the first time but Kuzy was the second semester and Rushy was the third and he lost the plot after that but basically, the Hell Hounds roster paid for Eli's tuition and they were all in cahoots with Eli's mother who helped them with his account info and stuff because, unlike her son, she had no qualms about letting overpaid athletes take care of her kid's tuition.

Just finished Doc's first episode of Season 8 and I'm - what??? What????? The book, the glitched hopper, the restart, the spawners. I'm - holy wHAT is happening? I followed the QR code on the Magical Appearing Spawner at the end and it brought me to a Hermatrix website (which, I do vaguely know of the Hermatrix in general, kinda hard to completely avoid spoilers when you're a season behind...oop) but first of all - so it needs a password. Cool. Probably gonna get that later, I"m guessing. But then if you click "Terminal" it's - it's Grumbot??? In a non-Grian and non-Mumbo plotline, we get Grumbot. What the hell is happening and why oh why didn't I start watching this sooner so I could freak out with everyone else online in real time????

So I’ve been thinking about the song “To Be a Princess” quite a bit lately. Something I definitely didn’t appreciate as much when I was younger is just the sheer amount of stuff going on in that number. Like, yes, there’s Julian teaching Erika how to imitate Anneliese and giving Alessandro Juliani a chance to show off his pipes but the song also communicates Julian’s attraction to Annalise, particularly in that moment where he is briefly distracted waxing lyrical about the way her presence makes him feel. On top of that, by pairing the “easy” parts about being a princess with strict rules about how you are allowed to present and behave, the song effectively communicates Annalise’s position of immense privilege, but also the exceedingly narrow guidelines in which she must exist. 

It’s especially interesting to go back and listen to Anneliese’s lines in “Free” after this, since it adds a new understanding to just what it is she would like to be free from, since not only is she not able to choose her own spouse, but she is also regulated in her presentation right down to the emotions she is allowed to express and, in some cases, which ones she is allowed to feel, since “to be a princess is to never be confused.” It’s pretty telling that while Erika explicitly wants to be free from her debt and the endless work hours, and she wants to be free to sing, and to travel the world to do so, (“People will gather around the world to hear my song”) Anneliese is only able to sing about what she wants to do in abstract terms, “Free to try crazy things” and “Free to fly.” She’s effectively so regulated she doesn’t necessarily know what, beyond choosing her own spouse, she would do if those guidelines were relaxed. It’s just a nebulous concept to her. Which, now that I think about it, is also quite fitting to the arc she has in the film, since we see her learning to do things about the situations she’s in (the bedsheet ghost, having Serafina deliver the ring and tag, flooding the mine and floating up in a barrel, etc.) instead of simply dreaming about what she might like to do.

The song also becomes an example of how the characters’ arcs tie into each other’s. We have Julian and Erika’s arcs being tied together as people who came from outside the palace and courts and having to learn more or less how to fit. It’s not really stated in Julian’s case, but we know he didn’t grow up in the courts because of an earlier conversation with Anneliese in which we learn that his family could only afford a room in the village, and so we can assume that at some point, he also had to learn to adapt. His arc is also being tied to Anneliese’s, since his song is used to communicate things about her and also about his feelings for her. And of course, it further ties Erika’s arc to Anneliese’s, showcasing their differences despite their similar appearances, and showing Erika learning to adapt as Anneliese will later do in Madame Carp’s Dress Emporium, as well as the situations where she has to act as a bit of a trickster to escape, since we had already seen Erika disguise herself to sneak out and sing in the square. And in “Free,” her line, “She can never stop my schemes” as well as Madame Carp’s exclamation of “Here again?” when she spots her singing implies this isn’t the first time she’s done something like this. And of course, that’s only the examples that directly connect with “To be a Princess,” since outside of that, there are also ways in which Julian’s character is tied to Preminger’s, with their effectively being opponents in the Princess Anneliese situation, as well as being foils due to having both grown up in poor families and working their way up, but where Julian is perfectly happy being the tutor, Preminger’s ambition leads him to desire kingship, something which Julian, based on his reaction when he learns of Preminger’s ambitions, cannot understand. 

And now of course I’m thinking of the other ways in which characters are tied together in this movie, but I feel like that’s probably best left as a second post.
